Day Twenty Eight: Baby Ruth

Only two more posts to go! Yay! I can't wait to start writing about something more worthwhile.
Baby Ruth
Bursting with Peanuts, Rich Caramel and Chewy Nougat Savour the Good StuffDid you know:
  • There is speculation to who this chocolate bar was named after: Babe Ruth or President Grover Cleavland's daughter Ruth
  • This bar carries lots of pop culture references including Caddyshack, Goonies, That 70's Show, Hellboy, Friends and Hairspray
  • The advertising and marketing for this bar have had a heavy baseball-oriented theme and during the summer and post-season of the 2007 season, a TV ad for the candy bar showed an entire stadium filled with people munching Baby Ruths, and thus having to "hum" rather than singing along with "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the seventh-inning stretch.
Grand Slam! Ha ha well it wasn't THAT amazing, but this was pretty good. There was less focus on the chocolate and more on the nougat and caramel. Very yummy indeed.

This bar had caramel on the bottom nestled under some tasty (yes, i'm getting attached to it) nougat, which was coated in peanuts and then dipped in chocolate! There was definitely a lot of tastes going on here which was great. It was flavourful and there was lots of 'good stuff'. Wikipedia was right: the nougat tastes more like fudge in this bar.

This one gets a 'recommended' (for those of you who like nougat) from me.

Day Twenty Seven: Pay Day

Woo hoo only a few days left...I'm sure no one is reading anymore :)
PayDay
Peanut Caramel Bar

Did you know:
  • PAYDAY Peanut Caramel Bar was first introduced in 1932 by Frank Martoccio, founder of the F.A. Martoccio Macaroni Company
  • In 2003, Hershey introduced the PAYDAY Honey Roasted Limited Edition Bar.
Ok so technically this shouldn't count as a chocolate bar, cause there is NO chocolate in it!!
It is mighty delicious though! Basically just a chewy caramel bar coated in amazingly salted peanuts!

A Honey Roasted version? I want one now! For anyone who loves peanuts (not likes, loves) then this is definitely the treat for you! This satisfies both a salty and sweet craving and I have never tasted anything quite like it. I can't stop eating it... :)

I highly recommend this one!

Day Twelve: Eat More

I strolled into the convenience store this afternoon, to pick out my daily poison, and my 'friend' (the convenience store owner) was amazed that I had still stuck to it. Then he informed me that he would be sending me an invoice at the end of the month for his services...great!

Today's pick:
Eat More
Original Dark Toffee Peanut Chew

Following comment is for the strong stomached only:

I know I haven't commented on the appearance of the chocolate bars, but this one I almost am required to. It resembles something that is expelled from your body after a long night of drinking and eating peanuts at the bar (not leaving enough time to be fully digested...).It's gross!

Now, I was raised to not judge a book by it's cover, so alas, I ate it.

Chew is right! This has the consistency of one of those fake chocolate protein bars. YUM! I think that this is so loaded with peanuts that there wasn't much room left for anything else BUT toffee. Although this didn't taste horrible, it tasted like it was a 'healthy' option to a chocolate bar. Don't be fooled though, this still has a whopping 15 g of fat and 280 calories (geez I should get to the gym one of these days!) The overall taste of this bar wasn't bad at all provided you enjoy eating peanuts and the taste of chewy toffee...

This is what the Hershey's website had to say about the Eat More: "It is definitely unique but are you unique enough to eat it?" I vote YES

Bonus: This is packed with protein from the peanuts and therefore is very satisfying, and also doesn't have a chocolate coating that could possibly melt in hot temps.

Day Four: Sweet Marie

Ah chocolate!

I sauntered over to the local convenience store by my work (where I frequent, and actually I have to credit my friend, the owner, for the idea of trying a new chocolate bar each day) and was greeting as "Ms. Chocolate" from my new friend. I cannot tell you how awesome this was (or not). But anyway, after much deliberation at the candy counter and after having listened to my friend tell me that "it's ok if you want to get the same thing you always do because some people just don't like change." HA HA HA. It's not like i ate only chicken fingers in restaurants until I was 16!!

Well, bring on the change big guy:

Sweet Marie
"With lots of fresh roasted peanuts"

Did you know:

  • There was no Wikipedia entry for this chocolate bar!! I figured out that it's because this baby is Canadian!
  • The Sweet Marie was named for a London, Ontario woman who was the subject of a poem by her boyfriend. Cy Warman penned the poem to Marie after walking her home one night in 1893. The poem was later turned into a hit song and the chocolate bar followed soon after. Thanks Trivia Guys!
Lots of peanuts indeed. While I cannot guarantee that they are 'fresh', they do taste roasted and they aren't stale. On the inside of this bar there is a ribbon of what seems to be chewy caramel ? (it's chewy nougat actually) and it holds the bar together amazingly.

The ratio of peanuts to chocolate in the Sweet Marie definitely allow you to eat more than one...as it is not too rich, and the nougat is a nice compliment. It does kind of remind me of an Oh Henry! bar, but with way more nuts.

I would recommend this to anyone who loves the salty vs sweet combo.
